What is Sender Policy Framework (SPF)
Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is an email authentication technology that allows a domain owner to specify which mail servers or IP addresses are authorized to send emails on behalf of their domain.
Receiving mail servers check the “envelope from” address in the email header against the list of IP addresses published by the domain, helping to determine whether the message is legitimate or potentially fraudulent.
Why it matters
SPF helps reduce threats such as:
- Phishing and spoofing
- Forged emails
- Spam sent using fake addresses
