Backups and GDPR Compliance in Utixo Shared Hosting

On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect, introducing enhanced protections for EU citizens. It grants rights such as data portability, the right to be forgotten, transparency regarding data processing, and prompt notifications in case of security breaches.

One of the most important aspects of the GDPR is data protection and backups. Utixo provides an advanced backup system for cPanel hosting accounts designed to meet these requirements.

Key Features of Utixo Backups

  • Full backup – The entire account is protected, including website, email accounts, SSL certificates, and DNS zone.
  • Encryption – Backups are encrypted with AES 256-bit end-to-end encryption, covering:
    • at source (during backup),
    • during transfer,
    • at destination.
This ensures compliance with GDPR articles 32 and 44.
  • Secure storage – Backup files are stored in a secondary data center, located hundreds of kilometers away (in Finland) from the production facility, certified with ISO/IEC 27001. This provides maximum security and a built-in first layer of disaster recovery.
  • Scheduling – By default, Utixo retains:
    • the last 10 daily backups,
    • plus one monthly backup for up to 4 months.
This extended retention policy ensures protection even in cases where issues are discovered long after the incident.

Note

You can request custom backup plans with specific scheduling tailored to your business needs.
