Changing the Primary IP Address of the Server and License Impact

If you frequently change your server's IP address, you may encounter issues where the license is no longer recognized, since many software licenses are bound to the system's primary IP address.

To resolve this and properly update the server's static IP, follow the steps below:

1. Edit the Network Configuration File

Access the network interface configuration file:

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

Replace the value of IPADDR= with the new desired IP address. Also review the GATEWAY and NETMASK fields if needed.

2. Save and Restart the Network Service

After saving the changes, restart the network service using:

systemctl restart network

On older Linux distributions, you may need to use:

service network restart

⚠️ Warning

Check with your provider or license issuer to ensure that the IP change doesn’t permanently invalidate your license. In some cases, you may need to request a reactivation.
