Difference Between Managed and Unmanaged Microsoft 365 Services
Microsoft 365 can be delivered in two modes: managed or unmanaged. The key difference lies in the level of technical and operational support included with the service.
Managed service
The managed version of Microsoft 365 includes full support for all administrative and operational tasks, providing a simplified and assisted experience. Specifically, Utixo handles:
- Creation of new email accounts
- Closure of existing email accounts
- Assignment and management of Microsoft 365 licenses
- Email tracking and delivery verification
- Diagnosis and resolution of message delivery or reception issues
- Security management, such as two-factor authentication (2FA) setup
This model is ideal for companies that prefer to delegate technical management to a qualified partner, saving time and minimizing the risk of errors.
Unmanaged service
With the unmanaged model, Utixo only handles the commercial management of the licenses, such as billing. All technical and administrative activities must be managed directly by the customer through the Microsoft 365 admin portal.
In this case:
- The customer is responsible for creating, modifying, and disabling email accounts
- License management is handled independently
- Utixo requires the creation of a low-privilege account to read the number of active licenses
The customer must access the UCMP control panel at https://shop.serverweb.net to manage or update their license count.
