Using PEC with a custom domain: benefits and configuration
The Certified Email (PEC) service on a personal domain allows you to use a custom email address linked to your own domain (registered or to be registered). This enhances your professional image and allows for more efficient management of certified email communication.
PEC email structure
The PEC address is configured on a third-level subdomain, following this format:
mailboxname@pec.yourdomain.xxx
Example: info@pec.mariorossi.it
Domain certification
To activate PEC mailboxes on your personal domain, you must complete a one-time domain certification. This step is required to enable the domain for certified email use.
Once certification is completed, you can create unlimited PEC mailboxes on that domain.
MX record configuration
To ensure proper operation of the PEC service, configure the domain’s MX record as follows:
pec 3600 IN MX 10 mx.pec.aruba.it
After configuring the MX record and completing certification, you can create addresses like:
info@pec.mariorossi.it
Email client configuration (POP3 / IMAP)
You can access your PEC mailbox from any email client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail), using either POP3 or IMAP protocol.
