Requesting the AuthInfo Code by the Registrant
Registrar's obligation under the regulation
According to Art. 13, paragraph VIII of the Registro .it regulation, the Registrar is required not to obstruct in any way the Registrant who wishes to change Registrar, and must cooperate in completing the operation.
In particular, the Registrar cannot refuse to provide the AuthInfo code necessary for the domain transfer. This duty is indicative but not exhaustive of the Registrar’s required collaboration.
Procedure if the code is not provided
If the Registrar fails to provide the AuthInfo code, the Registrant may submit a formal request, clearly showing that it is made by the Registrant or a person authorized to represent them.
The Registrar managing the domain can be identified using the “whois” function, by checking the “Registrar” field.
Reporting to Registro .it
If the Registrar does not reply or denies the code request, the Registrant can file a complaint with Registro .it, including documentation proving that the AuthInfo code was previously requested.
The report must include a copy of the initial AuthInfo request and should be detailed and well-documented.
Sending the request to Registro .it
The request should be drafted similarly to the following example:
“I, [Full Name], legal representative of the company [Company Name], request the AuthInfo code for the domain [domain name].”
The document must be signed, dated, and sent to the Registro .it certified email address: registro@pec.nic.it
Attention: consequences for the Registrar
Once the complaint is received, Registro .it will contact the Registrar to solicit the release of the code. If the Registrar does not respond within 48 hours, Registro .it will send the code directly to the Registrant and may impose the applicable penalties on the Registrar.
