Requesting Delivery and Read Receipts in Outlook
Outlook allows you to request two types of receipts to confirm whether your message was received and/or read by the recipient:
- Delivery Receipt: confirms the message was successfully delivered to the recipient’s mailbox.
- Read Receipt: confirms the recipient has opened the message.
Important
The recipient can choose not to send a read receipt, so receipt confirmation is not guaranteed.
How to request receipts
To enable receipts for a specific email:
- Open the email you want to send.
- Go to the Options tab.
- In the Tracking group, check one or both of the following options:
- Request a Delivery Receipt
- Request a Read Receipt
Identifying received receipts
When the recipient receives or opens your message, you’ll get a notification in your inbox. The receipt message includes a special icon and details about when the message was delivered or read.
