What Is a Domain Authorization Code (Auth-Code)

The Authorization Code, also known as Auth-Code, AuthInfo, or Transfer Code, is a unique identifier generated by the domain registrar to confirm the domain owner's identity and prevent unauthorized domain transfers.

This code is required to transfer a domain from one registrar to another.

How to Obtain the Auth-Code

  • Some registrars allow you to view or generate the Auth-Code directly from the customer control panel.
  • If that option is unavailable, you will need to request it manually by contacting the registrar.
  • According to ICANN regulations, registrars must provide the Auth-Code within 5 calendar days of the request.

Supported Extensions

The Auth-Code is required for the transfer of all gTLD domains, except the following:

  • .gov
  • .edu
  • .mil
  • .museum
  • .int
