60-Day Domain Transfer Lock (ICANN)
The transfer of a domain to another registrar may be temporarily blocked for 60 days due to a security policy enforced by ICANN. This lock is designed to protect domain ownership from unauthorized changes or fraudulent transfers.
Actions that trigger the lock
- Registering a new domain
- Transferring the domain to a new registrar
- Updating registrant details (name, organization, or email address)
Affected extensions
This restriction applies only to:
- gTLDs:
.com, .net, .org, .info, .tv, etc. - New gTLDs: all new extensions introduced by ICANN
Excluded extensions
The rule does not apply to ccTLDs (country-code domains), such as .it, .fr, .de. However, individual ccTLDs may enforce their own transfer policies based on their national registry's rules.
